More Tips For a Painless Closing

More Tips For a Painless Closing

We recently referenced an article we found on MSN.com entitled 6 Tips For A Painless Closing and we challenged you, our readers, to suggest closing tips of your own... with the potential of getting the spotlight in a follow up post. Well, here it is! More closing tips from your colleagues.

  1. Preliminary Docs Share preliminary closing documents to buyers or sellers for their additional review. Stay on lenders to provide closing packages timely so they may be adequately reviewed or delay closing.

  2. Keep Current On Government Regulations Subscribe to a site that provides you with the latest information on government incentives and regulations. For instance, if you are working with a seller this year who purchased a home in 2008-2011 and received the First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit, they may be required to repay the credit they received. More info on paying back this credit can be found here: http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=253009,00.html
    and here:  http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f5405--2011.pdf

  3. Don't Forget Your Driver's License  Remind your Buyers and Sellers to bring their driver's license. They joke that they always have it with them, but it's not always the case. I also had one client who had to run to the Secretary of State before closing to renew his license!

  4. Preliminary Cost Sheet  If you do a preliminary cost sheet when the offer is accepted, there shouldn't be too many surprises at closing.
